I was elected to the Royal Spanish Academy of Sciences (RAC) as Corresponding Member of the Division of Mathematical Sciences on October 25, 2023.
The entry ceremony took place at the RAC Headquarters on January 18, 2024. This was the Ceremony Invitation. A summary of the event (in Spanish) appeared in the Bulletin of the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society (page 5, issue 837, February 23 of 2024).
The event was streamed live in Spanish via the RAC channel and is available in the following video (the image below shows the moment when the Head of the Division of Mathematical Sciences at the RAC, José Bonet, awards me the Member Diploma).
My entry speech, delivered in Spanish, gave an introduction to symplectic geometry and some its applications. I made an emphasis on the applications to integrable dynamical systems and connections with quantum geometry. The first part of the speech was directed to a general audience. The title of the speech was Geometría Simpléctica: aplicaciones a los Sistemas Dinámicos Integrables y Retos para el siglo XXI (In English: Symplectic Geometry: applications to Integrable Dynamical Systems and challenges for the XXI century) and its front page is shown below.
It is impossible to be a mathematician without being a poet in soul.
